Beautiful sheepskins from our (non-certified) organic Jacob sheep. Perfect for gifts, comfying up a chair, bedside rugs that keep bare toes warm, or for baby mats!

All our sheep are pasture raised on our farm, usually grazing under the apple orchard. Skins are tanned at Devonia tannery producing a gorgeous soft back and fluffy front with the characteristic Jacob brown and white. This batch is from our older ewes, so they are a little unique, with tinges of silver on the ends and slightly more knots and deep-level matting (pictured in 3-4) than a lambskin. This means that they will be slightly harder to brush out or to deep clean. However, the naturally antimicrobial properties of sheepskins mean that this is rarely needed.

Please write if you would like a specific pattern (labelled 1-6 in corner of photo) or we will select one at random.

This is not important info but I thought I would write a little extra about these sheepskins for those interested, as these come from sheep which I have formed a bond with. As part of our breeding flock, they will have been with us for at least 6 years, teaching the youngsters how to follow a bucket and how to steal apples from the tree. It is always extra sad to see these ladies go, and it can feel uncomfortable. But discomfort is not necessarily a bad thing. It is eased by knowing that our animals lived an amazing life, had a peaceful death (we are lucky enough to have a very local abattoir, a declining but VITAL component of small farming in the UK), and are honoured and respected for what they provide for us.

  1. This ewe was very strong. She was very good at running up to the bucket faster than others, putting her head in it, and pushing until you dropped the bucket and she could run off with it. Inevitably she would need help getting the handle unstuck from her horns.

  2. Would get right up in the hedges to eat things. Somehow she never really got stuck but one lamb got trapped in brambles a lot trying to follow her and earned the nickname 'sticks' for always being covered in sticks.

  3. A particularly strong jumper and when being corraled for the sheep MOT would always jump the fence and stand in the hedge watching us disdainfully.

  4. Partners in crime with 3. Leader of the most escape attempts into my front garden.

  5. Descendant of Meep, our infamous bottle-fed sheep. Affectionately named Fatty due to her Texel heritage. The Boss.

  6. Apple-fiend. Responsible for nibbling the bottom branches of almost every tree in the orchard by standing on her hind legs.

As mentioned in the description, these sheepskins have more matting than typical. The matting is closer to the skin surface with a few tangles closer to the ends. They are still soft and most of the ends are brushed out as is typical with our previous batches. Materially, this may mean that they are harder to get stuff e.g. crumbs out of and harder to deep clean. Please make sure this is acceptable for your purposes as we will not accept returns based on this.
